Patient Engagement Manager Contractor
Big Health
You'll live in the data and the tooling — analyzing where patients drop off, hypothesizing why, building and optimizing the messaging journeys that bring them back, and running experiments to test what works. This is not a product management role. You won't own a product roadmap, write PRDs, or drive engineering sprints. Instead, you'll partner with the product, engineering, and clinical teams to improve engagement across our patient-facing products using analytics, user research, and hands-on engagement platform configuration.
This role is ideal for someone with 2–4 years of experience in engagement, lifecycle marketing, or growth who is analytically rigorous, deeply empathetic toward users, and wants to work at the intersection of technology and evidence-based mental health care.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze product usage data and engagement metrics to identify drop-off points, retention patterns, and opportunities for intervention across the patient journey — from activation through treatment completion.
- Own configuration and optimization of engagement journeys in Iterable — including push notifications, SMS, in-app messages, email, lifecycle messaging, re-engagement flows, and frequency capping.
- Design and run experiments to test engagement hypotheses: define success metrics, monitor results, analyze outcomes, and present actionable recommendations to product leadership.
- Conduct user research — interviews, survey analysis, and support channel review — to understand where and why patients disengage from treatment.
- Build and maintain analytics dashboards in PostHog to track activation, session completion, diary adherence, re-engagement rates, and other engagement metrics.
- Synthesize qualitative and quantitative engagement insights into clear recommendations that the product and clinical teams can act on.
- Collaborate with design and clinical teams to propose UX and messaging improvements that address identified engagement gaps.
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to accelerate research synthesis, experiment analysis, and engagement copy iteration.
Required Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in engagement, lifecycle marketing, growth, or a related analytical role — ideally in a mobile app environment
- Hands-on proficiency with an engagement platform (Iterable, Braze, Customer.io, or similar) — you've built and optimized journeys, not just reported on them
- Experience with product analytics tools (PostHog, Amplitude, Mixpanel, or similar) and comfort building dashboards and running ad hoc analyses
- Demonstrated experience running experiments and making data-informed decisions about messaging, timing, and channel strategy
- Deep empathy for users and curiosity about why people engage or disengage with products — you dig into the data but also talk to users
- Strong communication skills — you can synthesize findings into clear recommendations and present them to cross-functional stakeholders
- Self-directed and organized — you manage your own workstreams and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight
- Experience working on learning products, behavior change apps, or self-improvement platforms where sustained engagement is the core challenge
- Familiarity with SQL or willingness to develop data querying skills
- Experience with digital therapeutics, health tech, or regulated health software
- Comfort with AI-assisted workflows and willingness to experiment with AI tools for copy generation, research synthesis, and analysis
- Working knowledge of Figma — enough to annotate flows or propose UX changes in context
- Interest in transitioning into product management — you see this role as an opportunity to build analytical, research, and cross-functional skills that prepare you for a PM career path
